Kaiyang county in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been continuously improving its medical security service level and capabilities in recent years to enhance health security for residents, according to local media reports.

The county promoted full coverage of basic medical insurance and increased the promotion of insurance plans to enhance the public's awareness of basic medical insurance. Up to now, it has completed 103.31 percent of the city's target number for urban and rural residents receiving medical insurance.

It also improved the medical service system to boost the quality of medical security services, establishing and improving a service system of designated medical institutions at the county, township and village levels.

The county currently has 326 designated medical institutions for basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents and each administrative village has at least one designated clinic.

Focusing on reducing poverty through medical insurance, the county has made efforts to avoid poverty due to illness. Impoverished residents in the county are reimbursed for about 90 percent of their medical fees.

In addition, the county accelerated the policy of benefiting enterprises via medical insurance. Through the reduction and postponement of medical insurance payments during the pandemic prevention and control period, the county supported the resumption of work for companies and reduced their burden.

Kaiyang has currently cut half of the medical insurance payments for 713 companies in the county, and 45 companies have applied for deferred payment.
