Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been offering COVID-19 booster shots since Oct 14.
According to the Guiyang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, after a certain period of time after completing basic immunization, the protective antibodies in the body will gradually weaken or disappear. In order to maintain the necessary immunity, people must be vaccinated again.
People aged 18 and above who received two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccination over six months ago and people aged 18 and above who received one dose of adenovirus vector vaccination more than six months can now receive booster shots.
Guiyang has prioritized vaccinations for targeted groups at high risk of infection and those occupying important positions.
