Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has to date seen more than 4.7 million people to receive the initial two shots to protect them against the COVID-19 since it started vaccinations in December 2020.
Gao Lan, chief of the immunization planning division of Guiyang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that the vaccination scope had gradually been expanded. He said it had moved on from key groups to the general population, including those above 12 years of age, and over 10 million doses had been administered, with the inoculation rate exceeding 90 percent.
To meet the vaccination needs of different groups, Guiyang Center for Disease Control and Prevention has included eligible community health service centers and township health centers in its fixed COVID-19 vaccination sites. It has also coordinated with medical institutions above the second level to establish temporary COVID-19 vaccination sites.
The center has also instructed districts, counties and county-level cities administered by Guiyang to set up temporary vaccination sites in schools to provide shots for teachers and students.
In addition, it has strengthened its technical training and inspection guidance, and offered 1,000 vaccination training opportunities to medical workers in centers for disease control and prevention at the county- and district-level, community health service centers and township health centers. The goal is to improve the overall quality of the vaccination services.
On Oct 12, Guiyang launched a COVID-19 booster campaign to increase vaccine effectiveness. To date, about 80,000 people have received their booster shots.
