Telecom to boost 5G-based medical, health applications in Guiyang

The Guizhou branch of China Mobile Communications Group, one of China's major telecoms, held a supply and demand matchmaking meeting for 5G-based medical and health application scenarios in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and Guian New Area on July 22. 

The conference aimed to promote the in-depth integration of information technology and health care services, promote the steady development of smart medical care, and accelerate the digital upgrading of the medical and health care sectors. 

Leaders and experts from the Guizhou Communications Administration, Big Data Development Administration of Guizhou, Guiyang Bureau of Big Data Development and Management, Guian New Area Big Data Development Administration, Guiyang Bureau of Health, and hospitals in Guiyang attended the conference. 

Zhao Yan, deputy director of the Guiyang Bureau of Big Data Development and Management, said that Guiyang and Guian New Area have created a number of 5G-based medical and health application cases. 

Since 5G started being used commercially in 2019, the Guizhou branch of China Mobile has invested some 9 billion yuan ($1.33 billion) in the construction of 5G base stations, and has built about 10,000 5G base stations in Guiyang and Guian New Area, as well as developed over 60 provincial 5G informatization demonstration applications. 

In terms of 5G-based smart medical care, smart health monitoring, medical image cloud, pre-hospital emergency, and smart hospitals developed by the Guizhou branch of China Mobile have become practical services in the fields of medical and health care. 

Wang Ke, deputy general manager of the branch, said that the company will further explore in-depth integration with Guizhou medical care, and carry out further explorations and useful practices in cloud medical care, smart wards, smart monitoring, and hospital informatization management. 

It will provide low-latency, high-bandwidth network access services and develop high-value new applications in 5G-based medical care.
