Zha Yan: Provide convenient medical resources to Guizhou people

Southwest China's Guizhou province is currently constructing national regional medical centers which have the potential to increase the amount and more evenly distribute national high-quality medical resources, as well as make up for Guizhou's shortages in medical treatment, according to Zha Yan, director of Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital and a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC).

In October last year, the Guizhou branches of Shanghai Children's Medical Center and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital were approved as national regional medical centers.

With the construction and operation of the Guizhou branch of Shanghai Children's Medical Center, the mortality rate of children under 5 years old in Guizhou old was 5.18 per thousand people and the infant mortality rate was 3.37 per thousand people, year-on-year decreases of 10.01 percent and 31.05 percent, respectively.

Currently, Zha is busy with the official unveiling of the Guizhou branch of Shanghai Children's Medical Center.

"According to the new needs of the public, national development and advanced international standards, we are accelerating the implementation of the national regional medical center, complementing the weaknesses of medical discipline construction, and introducing high-level medical talent," Zha said.

"We are carrying out close cooperation with Shanghai Children's Medical Center and the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University to improve medical services, train more medical and related talent, and improve the quality of medical treatment in Guizhou", Zha added.

In the future, the Guizhou branch of Shanghai Children's Medical Center will become a national children's hospital and national regional children's special diagnosis and treatment center, providing high-quality medical resources to locals at their doorstep.
